Our Story

 

In 2015, John Mirkovic and Mario Reed met at the Cook County Recorder of Deeds Office in Chicago. John saw Mario’s passion for public service and his incredible drive to succeed, and chose him to be in charge of the office’s Property Fraud Unit, and its public outreach efforts. Both learned from the late Karen Yarbrough that we must always serve others first, and they carry that mission with them at FFLS, where they focus on providing life-changing education and services to the West Side of Chicago, and the Western Suburbs.

ABOUT ATTORNEY MARIO A. REED

Mario A. Reed is a Licensed Attorney in the State of Illinois. Previously, Attorney Reed was an attorney with the Cook County Recorder of Deeds Office & The Cook County Clerk’s Office before starting his own law practice. He is known for his commitment to educating the public about the myths of estate planning and the dangers of inaction, a tireless advocate that families break the cycle of Probate Court and avoid it entirely. Attorney Reed regularly dedicates multiple hours of his time to creating Free public workshops so that as many people as possible can get this important information.

ABOUT JOHN D. MIRKOVIC

John Mirkovic is a former public official, having taken the Oath of Office as Deputy Recorder of Deeds and Deputy Cook County Clerk. He believes that this commitment to fairness, honesty, transparency and service does not end when one leaves public service, and he promises to each of his clients that he will always be honest with them about their situation, and never put anyone above their needs, including and especially, the government.

Between the years of 2008 and 2012, he and his wife paid off over $110,000 in debt and have been debt-free ever since. At that time, he maintained a personal finance blog that he used to help teach others, eventually selling that website in 2012.

John received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where he was a Dean’s Scholar and Founding President of the SIUE Political Science Association. Upon graduating, he was selected for the highly-competitive Illinois Legislative Staff Intern Program (ILSIP) at the University of Illinois at Springfield, where he was placed within the Issues Development Unit of the Illinois House of Representatives. He has also completed a Certificate of Public Leadership through The George Washington University in conjunction with the International Association of Government Officials. He currently serves as a gubernatorial appointee to the Illinois Rental Housing Support Program Funding Allocation Task Force.

In additional to helping families with their finances, John is a technology consultant an SME on blockchain database applications, digitally-signed government records, and digital transformation in the areas of cybersecurity and “digital infrastructure.”

John and his wife Katie have lived in Oak Park since 2013, and have two daughters, a college sophomore and a high-school freshman.
